Visionary poem from the Underworld


2023

Silk, copper, flax

Draped double weave in two separate layers of silk, copper and flax, interwoven at points with home-produced silk. The work was created for the exhibition "Morus" at Galleri Apoteket in Roma, Gotland 2023. The title refers to Margareta Kuske's testimony in the Visby witch trial of 1705, when Kuske was convicted of using herbs for medicinal purposes and for visiting the underworld, brought there at exactly the same site in Visby where a mulberry plantation was established for silk production 150 years later.
